Warriors Defeat 2;
Play Deerfield There

Tonight the bucketmen travel to Deerfield to take on the DF Warriors. Game time is 8:15. Deerfield will present a more balanced attack with Rusty Benedict, Dick McDermott and juniors John Lindquist, Tom Fuzzy representing the strength of their attack.

The varsity five defeated Morton West last Friday night, 45-42. The score at the end of the first quarter was tied at 9-9, with scoring by Bill Verber (2), Jim Smith (6), and Tom Hendrickson (1).

The Warriors took an 18-17 lead at the half on two baskets by Smith, one each by Jackson and Verber, and a free throw by Peterson, then held on to squeak by with a win.

On Thanksgiving eve the Warriors lost 60-45 to a powerful Waukegan squad. The Bulldogs jumped off to a 4-0 lead and held a 9-6 margin at the quarter. Jim Smith sank four free-throws and Bill Verber hit on two, as the Warriors failed to score a basket in the entire first quarter.

At the start of the second quarter, Waukegan scored three quick baskets and took a commanding 12-point lead at the half 31-19. Bromstead, Waukegan's fabulous guard, led his team to a 17-point lead at the end of the third quarter, a margin too large for the Warriors to overcome.
Two weeks ago Coach Freeman's Warriors celebrated their season's opener with a 53-40 win over Barrington. The team combined slick ball-handling with the fine shooting of Jim Smith, Stoney Jackson, and Chuck Peterson to wallop the Broncos. Summary:

In their home opener, the JV's were edged by Waukegan 38-31. The sharpshooting of Paul Moehling and a stout defense kept the little Warriors in the game, as they trailed by just three points at the end of the third quarter, 24-21.

The Bulldogs superior height and teamwork began to pay off in the fourth quarter.

Last Friday night the little Warriors' five whipped Morton West, 52-44. The combination of Larry Hofmann, Tom Spearling, Pete Kulik, Ken Mueller, and Jim Burson proved to be too much for the Falcons, as the Westmen combined fantastic first quarter shooting with tough rebounding to get the season off on the right foot
