Gymnasts Top Morton East, Fall To West Leyden by 13 |

| The next gymnastics meet is on Jan. 9th at Niles North. This will be the musclemen's first Conference meet. Maine features Dick Braun on the high bar, John Kennett on the parallel bars and John Abbott on the rings. Mike Keller handles the trampoline and tumbling chores for the Mainites. The varsity gymnasts won their first meet of the season by beating Morton East on Dec. 3rd. The team won every event. The musclemen scored on the trampoline and side horse and walked over ME 16-6 in both the high bar and in the tumbling events. Maine swept parallel bars. Warriors 13, Morton 9, stood as the score on the rings. The Gymnasts lost a meet 72/2 - 59/2 to West Leyden. This time, they won only one event, while tying another. The musclemen grabbed their only win on the high bar, 12-10. A tie took place on the parallel bars, 11-11, between the two, and Maine was edged on the side horse by one point, 111/2-101/2. The musclemen were on the short end of a 14-8 score on both the still rings and tumbling events. |
Frosh-Soph Win The frosh-soph gymnastics team defeated Oak Park last Tuesday night 70-62. Scoring for West were Tyler, 1st; Mordue, 3rd; and Beckman, 6th; in the trampoline. The sidehorse saw Scully take 1st, Clark, 2nd; and Wold, 6th. On the high bar Carley was 1st; Dean, 5th; and Sass, 6th. Parallel bar scorers were Sass, 1st; Scully, 2nd; and Deutrich, 6th. Sass, Holtz and Carley placed on the rings. A complete victory was scored in tumbling with Tyler, Beckman, and Mordue taking 1st, 2nd, 3rd, respectively. In the past weeks the froshsoph have defeated Morton East 73-59 and dropped a heartbreaker to Lyden West 65-67. |
