Warrior of the West

Anyone who faithfully attends the Warriors' basketball games will certainly notice a 6-foot, 6--inch, 215-pound, brown-haired, brown-eyed senior who is as much a part of the game as the basketball itself. This is Jim Smith, known better to his friends as "Smitty."

Last year, Jim lettered in both basketball and baseball. In basketball, he was chosen as the most valuable player and was elected to the All-Conference squad. One of his most thrilling experiences occurred when he was a sophomore on the varsity basketball team and the Warriors captured the Regional basketball title. Another of his exciting moments came last year in the Sectional baseball tournament when he knocked a grand slam home run.
Jim believes that school spirit is probably the best it has been, but could still be improved. He also feels that this year's basketball team is the best squad Maine has had. The most outstanding thing at Maine, according to "Smitty," is the coaches.

Jim's best year in school has been his senior year so far. His favorite subject is accounting. He plans to attend college, but as yet he is undecided where. Jim is so involved in basketball that he has little time for hobbies. His main pet peeve is "guys who sit in the stands and ridicule the coaches."
