| The female leads in the all school production of South Pacific will be triple cast and the male leads will be double cast. The lead roles are as Nellie Forbush, Diane Dormeyer '65, Harriet Hall '66, and Deb Quinn '65; as Bloody Mary, Gail Horn '65, Kitty Kinser '67, and Mary Leonard '65; as Lt. Joseph Cable USMC, Paul Hummel '66, and Pat LaSalle '65; as Emile deBecque, Dave Humphreys '65, and Ed Newell '65. The play is based on two stories in James Michener's book Tales of the South Pacific. The stories are "Our Heroine" and "Fo'Dolla." The action in this play takes place on two islands of the South Pacific during a lull in the war against Japan. The plot consists of two romances. The most important one is between Ensign Nellie Forbush and Emile de Becque. The second one is between Lt. Joseph Cable and Bloody Mary's daughter Liat. |
The faculty directors are Mr. Robert Kuite, general director and conductor; Mr. Wi1bur Schafer, vocal director; Mr. Garth Boyer, Drama coach; Mrs. Mildred Heidorn, orchestra director; Mr. George S. Blanas, sets and costumes; Mr. Robert Pelikan, technical director; Mr. Verne Brownell, audio director; Miss June Rold, choreographer; Mr. Jared Spears, publicity; and Mrs. Nora Mae Ralph and Miss Mary Dindinger, business arrangements. South Pacific was picked for this year's musical because of the many hit songs it contains and the large cast needed for production. The royalties were $1,000, and according to Mr. Kuite, "The interest was tremendous. Between 150 and 175 people tried out." Mr. Kuite thinks that the main difficulty in production will be the several set changes needed in the play. South Pacific will be performed three nights in succession. The dates set for performances are April 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. |
