Netmen take 3rd in tournament |

| Should the Warriors come up with a win over Forest View tonight at Maine East's fieldhouse, the Falcons will be in serious danger of being eliminated from this year's M.S.L. championship race. The spunky Falcons won their first three Conference games before Prospect, another contender, surprised them 49-45 two weeks ago. Last week FV beat Glenbrook North, 62-42. Traveling to Wheeling last week proved to be a real pleasure for Coach Freeman's Warriors. The bucketmen had a field day, smashing the Wildcats 83-25. Jim Smith led all scorers with 30 points. Willowbrook and Glenbrook North have also been recent Warrior victims. Two weeks ago the Westmen dumped Willowbrook's Warriors 70-64. This non-Conference win followed the 52-39 lashing MW had dealt Glenbrook North the night before. |
Third At Proviso The Warriors earned a third place trophy in the tough Proviso West Tournament over Christmas vacation. West Leyden was the Warrior's firstround opponent. Maine could not get started till the fourth quarter when they out-scored Leyden 20-8 in the final quarter. Twelfth-ranked, undefeated, Lyons Township of LaGrange was next on the Warrior slate. The Lions led the Warriors by six at the half and two after the third quarter, as MW slowly whittled down their lead. Ted Wolters' 11-point performance in the final quarter sparked the Westmcn to a stumbling 69-58 upset of LaGrange. Downed By Hosts The Warriors semi-final round opponents were the rough Pirates of Proviso East, the eventual winners of the tourney for the second successive year. Al Numners led the Pirates to a 60-52 win. Maine West met and defeated the Bulldogs of Riverside-Brookfield, 56-48, to take third place in the tournament. |
