Tank Squad Wins, Loses |
||||||||||
| Facing some tough teams, the Maine West swimmers split in their encounters in the past two weeks, whipping Prospect and losing to Glenbrook North 56-37. The tankers also defeated Wheeling Jan. 15th and entered the Riverside-Brookfield relays on Jan. 9th. This afternoon the tankers meet Forest View in the West pool. The Wildcats of Wheeling are a team that will see nothing but improvement in the future. The spirit of the team is high, and effort is their key word. The boys on the team practice at 6 a.m. at the St. Viator's High School pool under the coaching of swimming mentor Mr. J. Miller. Being at this great disadvantage, the team was, of necessity, weak. Warriors took firsts in all events, and swept all but two, the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard freestyle. Warriors taking first against Prospect were Norm Hudson, Rick Fulle, Tom Gast, and Tom Junius in the 200-yd medley relay; Reed Erven, 200-yd freestyle; Tom Wenzel, 200-yd individual medley; Tom Gast, 100yd butterfly; Norm Hudson, backstroke; Craig Erven, 400yd freestyle; and Rick Fulle, 100-yd breaststroke. At Riverside-Brookfield, the Warriors placed in three events, coming out with nine points. |
