Track Season Starts;
Team Shows Promise

The outlook is doubtful for the Warrior track squad this year. According to head coach Mr. Joe Jobst, "The loss of hurdlers and weightmen will hurt us. We'll also be weak in the sprints, but strong in the distance events."

This year's track team, led by Rich Bokor, John Greco, Lloyd Schlegel, and Tom Smith, will try to improve their second place standing of last year. Last year's team placed second in both the Conference and District m e e t s. Handling the dashes will be Bokor, Bernie Braun, and Jerry Nebel. The hurdlers are Wayne Wysoglad, John Tarbert, Wally Tistle. The halfmile will be a strong event for the Cindermen with Lloyd Schlegel and Kevin Flurkey showing promise in this event.

Shot putters this year are Tom Smith and Al Eyre. Nebel and Carl Martin are competing for the, broad jump. Scoring for West in the high jump will be Phil Engle, Dick Wells, and Tistle.
The mile, another strong event for the thinclads, will have last year's Conference champion John Greco in West's corner. Russ Suszko who took third last year to Greco will also run the mile. Two other boys running in this event will be Phil Martin and Tom Johnstone.

Phil Boyce will take on all pole vaulters this year since he will be top man. Jim Bullerman, John Grimes, and Herm Zelk will also vault.

Running in the quarter-mile will be Rich Bokor who competed in the state meet last year. Others running in this event are Greg Kirishian, Pete Schafft and sophomore Jim Hren.

Two members of the squad commented, "With the support of the student body we can go a long way." Opening the season against Schurz, the tracksters take to the indoor track at Maine East at 4:30 on Jan. 27th.
