Warrior of the West

Today the Westerner is recognizing two outstanding gymnasts as "Warriors of the West." They are Dick Braun and John "Rocky" Kennett.

Dick, who specializes in the high bar, stands 5 feet 101/2 inches tall, weighs 157 pounds, and has short blond hair and blue eyes. According to him, "Gymnastics is a personal chal-lenge." He has lettered twice in gymnastics and once in football.

John, who is 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds, has sandy blond hair and blue eyes. His specialties are the rings and the parallel bars. "Rocky's" most thrilling experiences were participating in State competition and taking a first in the Conference championship meet with Forest View. He has lettered twice in gymnastics prior to this year. Sketching is one of John's favorite hobbies.
Dick likes the teachers here at Maine because of their concern for the individual as well as for the whole school. John feels that West's coaches are outstanding.

According to the two musclemen, gymnastics gives the participant "self-satisfaction and a feeling of accomplishment." They both feel that more emphasis should be placed on the so-called minor sports. Dick believes that school spirit is better than in previous years, but can still be improved.

Dick and John both plan to attend Western Illinois University. Dick plans to major in mathematics and minor in physical education, while "Rocky" plans to major in commercial art.
