Maine West Scholars Shine in ACT Test |

| Last month the Illinois State Scholarship Commission announced the names of the State Scholarship semi-finalists. Qualifying from Maine West are John Anderson, Elizabeth Bade, Daniel Barry, Donna Batdorf, John Bentley, John Bleharski, Margaret Brown, Linda Bryson, Deborah Callister, Donna Carlson, Paula Clayton, Daniel Colyin, Carol Copeland, and Richard Cornelius. Also Carole Engh, Phillip Engle, Kathleen Flentge, John Gable, Susan Gartner, Dennis Grant, Barbara Gundelach, David Hammer, Beth Holmgren, Linda Holt, James Kahn, Donald Kinder, William Klein, Kent Krautstrunk, Kent Lashway, Gordon Lewandowski, Richard Leyerle, William Mankel, Jerome Nolan, Paul Norris, and Kathy Owen. And others are Linda Petkus, Robert Reinhart, Constance Rische, James Robbins, Edward Solm, Terry Selke, Charles Shriver, Frank Tantone, Dale Tillman, Robert Wayman, Diane Weldon, Margie Wille, William Wolter, and Mary Wright. Semi-finalists Selected The students who wished to participate in the competition for awards submitted their scores from the ACT Examination taken Nov. 7th, 1964, to the State Scholarship Commission. semi-finalists |
were selected on the basis of their test scores and high school records and according to the funds available to the commission. Winners Wait Until April In April, the winners of the honorary and monetary awards will be announced. The maximum award is $750; and if no financial assistance is needed, the applicant indicates so by not submitting a financial needs analysis. State scholarships may be renewed by all winners for three years after the original award is granted if financial aid is needed for undergraduate study. In order to receive a monetary award, the winner must attend an approved college or university in Illinois. Students rank in 95 percentile According to the Commission, the average semi-finalist has an academic record ranking him in 95th percentile with his class and scored the equivalent of a 92nd percentile on the ACT Examination among Illinois College - b o u n d seniors. Their scores, when compared with those of national college-bound students, placed them in the 94th percentile and when compared to scores of all seniors in the United States, placed Illinois State Scholarship semi-finalists in the 98th percentile. The number of students qualifying from Maine, 49, is the most in the history of the school. |
