MW Remains Open During Bad Weather |

| Battling ice, snow, stalled cars, and late buses, Maine West students managed to brave the elements and keep school open, Monday, Jan. 25th. Described by the Public Service Company as the worst storm in 18 years, many homes were without lights and heat for more than one day. Students, for once, had a different excuse for not doing homework. Damage to trees has been inestimable. It will be some weeks yet before all of the debris of broken branches can be taken away. Only once in the history of Maine West has the school closed. This occurred several years ago because of a snow |
storm. Last week some schools in the northern area were closed because of lack of heat for more than one day. Still other schools in the area were used as shelters for people who had no heat in their homes. To top it all off, the rest of the week saw the mercury dropping below zero for some of the coldest weather of the winter. Maine West students experienced frost bitten ears and feet during walks to and from school or while waiting for the buses. Who was it that said winters were getting milder? Or that we don't have any winters like the ones of long ago? |
