Frantic Sing, Play Pop Music at School Functions

By Cheryl Bard

Who are they? What do you mean, who are they? Haven't you heard? They're the greatest group that . . . .Huh? Oh. . you don't know them. Well, they're called "The Frantics," who are made up of three fellows on guitars: Mike Mencinger '67, Ed Pluemmer '67, and Russ White '66. Greg Johnson '66, really beats a wild skin, drumwise, that is. Hey, there they are; let's talk to them.

Hi, fellows. Could we talk to you for a minute? It seems that some people haven't heard about your group. How did you get together?

"Well, it all started when Greg and Mike met at a Y dance, and the combo there got them interested in getting up their own group. Russ and Ed were playing with other groups at the time, and they decided to join with us."

Who decided on the name 'The Frantics"?

"We all started thinking of good names, and it was finally Russ who thought up the name, The Frantics. We all liked it."
Where did you play your first job?

"We began by playing at the Caravel Motel."

Where do "The Frantics" usually play?

"Oh, open houses, weddings, teen dances, sock hops, and after dances. We like after dances the best."

What other groups and types of music do you like?

"We like 'The Ventures' and 'The Beatles.' As for music, we have a pretty wide range."

Do you find time to participate in school activities?

"Sure! Greg plays. basketball, Mike plays some football, and both Ed and Mike play baseball."

How long do you plan to stay together?

"We plan to stay together next year, but then, well. .

We're looking forward to playing at after dances, sock hops, and pep rallies next year."

Good luck, fellows. See you around!
