MW Is Given Honda Engine |
||||||||||
| Maine West received a Honda 150 cc motorbike engine from Mr. Leif Roland, head of Grand Prix Automotive Inc. in Melrose Park, Illinois. The Industrial Art Department will also receive a service manual and a set of special factory tools. The motor weighs 150 pounds and can power a cycle up to 85 mph. It is 16.5 horsepower and gets 125 mpg. The engine is unusual, because it has an electric starter and an overhead camshaft with hemispherical heads. |
"We are especially glad to receive an engine of this type as it shows the students many different, unusual, and interesting designs not currently being used by American manufacturers," said Mr. Robert Freeman, industrial education teacher. Honda has changed the image of people who ride motorcycles from the black leather jacket type to the clean-cut American with the slogan, "You meet the nicest people on a Honda." |
