New School Year Means Many
Changes At Maine

Over the summer vacation period, changes were made to better accommodate the ever increasing number of students at Maine West. An increased number of students are taking foreign languages, making it necessary to install a new electronic language laboratory on the second floor of A‑wing. In order for students to use the chemistry approach in their studies of biological sciences, a biology room in C‑wing has been modernized. The leaks in the shower rooms of B‑wing and C‑wing were repaired during the summer.

There was a need for office space for the mathematics, social science, language, and English department staffs, and for the Student Council. Minor facility changes were made to accommodate this need.

There won't be any need to use the auditorium for study halls this year. The lockers at the end of the second floor of A‑wing have been removed to provide study hall space, which accommodates 120 students. A similar change has been made at the end of C‑wing to provide new classrooms.

Other changes made during the summer include improvements of the Reading Clinic facilities, installation of additional bicycle racks in the parking lots, provision for extra storage space in the metals shop, and the remodeling of the faculty study and dining areas.

Benches have been installed along the loading walks. Eventually, benches will be installed at the front of the building.

Maine West boys will be glad to hear that obstacle course equipment has been set up within the football stadium area. This new equipment should benefit all physical education students in their fitness programs.

Along with all these innovations are the shining faces of 21 new teachers. With all the new improvements we have, this year should prove to be very successful.
