Maine West Defeats Two Football
Opponents 26-0

This year, Maine West kicked off its football season with two wins and is presently tied for first place in the conference. In each game, the Warriors slaughtered their opponents by the score of 26 to 0.

On September 25, the Warriors met Deerfield on the Maine West field. At 8:37 in the first quarter, Maine West halted a strong Deerfield drive on the Deerfield seven yard line. Maine was able to carry the ball to the 40 yard line before being forced to kick. On the next play, the Warriors recovered a Deerfield fumble on the six yard line. The first quarter ended scoreless, but with only six seconds gone in the second quarter, Maine West crossed the line for the first touchdown of the game. Unfortunately, they were unable to gain the extra point.

At 10:34 of the second quarter, Maine West again recovered another Deerfield fumble on the 40 yard line, and in only two running plays, was able to gain another touchdown. This time, the kick was good and at the half, Maine West led 13 to 0.

With four minutes gone of the third quarter, Maine West recovered the third Deerfield fumble for the day, and at 6:05 was able to connect on a pass from the seven yard line for another touchdown. The kick was good.

In the fourth quarter, with only 2 minutes and 24 seconds remaining in the game, the Warriors completed another pass for a touchdown, but was unable to kick the extra point. Maine West then completed their second game of the season by defeating Deerfield 26 to 0.

The first game of the season was to be played at Peoria, but because of bad weather, the game was forced to be played on the Maine West field. After a scoreless first quarter, a strong Maine West drive paid off with the first touch down of the game, with only 4 min., 16 seconds remaining. Due to a block by Peoria Central, Maine was unable to kick the extra point.

With two minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Warriors scored their second touchdown for the day. Maine West then charged through the Lions to gain the extra point. Nine seconds later, Warrior Paul Moeling '66 intercepted a Lion's pass and ran nearly 55 yards for another touchdown. Again, Maine West was unable to score the extra point. At the end of the third quarter, Maine West led over Peoria Central by a score of 19 to 0.

In another drive in the fourth quarter, the Warriors completed another touchdown pass, making the score 25 to 0. The kick for the extra point was good and Maine West then ended the day with its first victory of the season.

Perhaps one of the toughest opponents Maine West will face is Forest View. If we should defeat them, Maine West will have a good chance to become the Conference Champs for the 1965 season.
