AFS Week Nears End

The last day of AFS Week has arrived. Today the record hop will bring an end to the activities here at West. Featured at the dance will be the judging of the "most beautiful big toe contest."

Yesterday's attraction after school in the cafeteria was an ice cream social and a bake sale. Baked goods for the sale were provided by the AFS Club and Student Council. Wednesday a carnival was held after school in the cafeteria.

Tuesday brought the voting in the "big toe contest" and a taffy apple sale after school. Monday was the day of nominations of the "big toe contest" in the cafeteria. This day was also the official "honor the foreign exchange students day." During the week Velma Welch '66 and Gus Herrero '66 spoke during the homeroom assemblies and were presented with flowers.

Pat Clement '67, president of AFS Club, hopes that everyone will be at the hop and states, "The only way you can show an interest in AFS is to come out and participate."

The profits from this week's activities will be presented to the Adult Chapter of AFS in Des Plaines. The money will pay for Maine West's share for next year's foreign student at Maine West.

Mr. Collister, sponsor of AFS, is enthusiastic about the club's program and states, "The AFS program, which brings students to this school from other lands, provides our students with opportunities to learn about the peoples of the world. I appreciate the fact that so many people contributed and helped make this event a big success."
