Students Win Art Awards

In the Scholastics Art Award competition Maine West received many awards. Maine won three Hallmark Awards, 16 Blue Ribbon Awards, 45 Gold Key Awards, and 80 place awards. Six portfolios of Maine West students were also submitted for scholarships. The portfolios and those pieces of work winning Hallmark Awards or Blue Ribbon Awards will be sent on to New York for further competition.

The chosen portfolios belong to Randy Black '66, Michael Brennan '66, William Jonas '66, Cheri Mercer '66, Elizabeth Radcliffe '66, and Kathleen Rice '66.

The highest awards, the Hallmark Awards, were won by George Bethurem '67, Michael Brennan '66, and James Christensen '66. These objects were among 400 others that were chosen from the 2,300 pieces which were submitted.

Blue Ribbon and Gold Key Awards went to Randy Black '66, George Bethurem '67, James Christensen '66, Vicki Ahrends '68, Michael Brennan '66, Linda Cillo '66, Cathy Condie '68, Peggy Fisher '66, Renee Gatsis '68, and Cheri Mercer '66.

Gold Key Awards were given to Carl Basner '66, Dave Carlson '69, James Gaul '68, Mike Giesel '68, Mary Jo Hansen '66, Jayne Hann '68, Verna Jacks '68, Mike McCann '66, Susan Maynard '67, Sue Nehring '67, Joe Pape '66, Elizabeth Radcliffe '66, Kathleen Rice '66, Dave Wallman '69, Diane Warrington '69, Deborah Welte '69, and Thomas Wilson '69.
