Students Vie for Posts

March 14 marks the beginning of Election Week '66. Students will be vying for the offices of president and secretary of Student Council as the week is filled with varieties of campaigns and speeches. The results of the election will be announced March 19 at the Election Jitney.

Running for the office of president are Dan Beck, Doug Chase, and Bill Prentice. All submitted petitions to the Student Council office with 200 names or signatures.

Mary Holm and Jill Schlanbusch are the two juniors vying for the office of secretary. Both are presently engaged in Student Council and its many projects.

Linda Olsen '66 is the chairman of Election week this year. She reports that everything is going fine and all that is needed now is the support of the students for the candidate of their choice. Linda says, "It is your Council, kids, so why doesn't everyone get out and campaign for the candidate of your choice. FIRE UP!"

Campaigning will start Monday, March 14. Before school there will be speeches, skits, and combos in each of the gyms. Each candidate will have a gym and a combo. The combos playing have not yet been picked by the boys.

Each candidate has a campaign manager handling many of his affairs. Among them this year are Curt Hayward '67 for Doug Chase, Gus Herrero '66 for Bill Prentice, Colin Baenziger '66 for Dan Beck, Cindy Kaechele '66 for Jill Schlanbusch, and Sue Stein '67 for Mary Holm.

Voting will take place on March 17 and March 18. Booths will be set up under the Hall of Fame in the main entrance. They will be open for voting during the lunch periods on Thursday and Friday. In each booth will be a special pencil. Upon entering the booth, the voter will be given an IBM card with the candidates' names. This card is to be marked with the special pencil only. Otherwise the vote will not be registered by the IBM machine which will automatically count the votes. It is stressed that if you wish your vote to count use only the assigned pencil.

All are urged to vote. Jill Schlanbusch says, "It's your school and your Student Council. Get out and vote for your choice."

Bill Prentice also adds, "I hope that everyone will get out and support a candidate and take part in Election Week. Vote, even if it isn't for me!"

The results of the voting will be announced at an Election Jitney held on Saturday, March 19, at 8 p.m.
