Short brown hair and medium height could best describe Mrs. Emelie Lechtenberg, business education and typing teacher. She has Typing I, business education, and Typing II classes.
Mrs. Lechtenberg taught as a student teacher at Maine West last year, but this year is her first real year of teaching. She attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois. Mrs. Lechtenberg enjoys teaching and, usually, the students at Maine West. "Everyone is very cooperative here," she said.
Because being a housewife takes up most of her waking moments, Mrs. Lechtenberg confesses that she has very little free time, but she enjoys reading and sewing when she is not grading papers or staying after school with students for detention. "I do housework most of the time," she said, "but I'm a terrible cook."
Over this summer, Mrs. Lechtenberg plans to go to school to further her education and to take a trip to California with her husband.

Her advice to students is "Take advantage of all the wonderful advantages you have here at Maine West. Not only are the scholastic studies good, but the extra‑curricular activities offered open up a new world for the interested student." Mrs. Lechtenberg added that studies should always come first, but that extra‑curricular activities play a very important role and should be included. "Activities must be mixed with education to make an interesting high school life," she added.
The things Mrs. Lechtenberg likes most about Maine West are the wide ranges of opportunities offered to the students and the co‑operation and general atmosphere of Maine West. The thing she thinks could be improved about Maine West is the school spirit. "I'd like to see more students show school loyalty and support," she said.
Mrs. Lechtenberg's most embarrassing experience occurred when she went to the school library to check out a magazine and the librarian asked to see her I.D. card.
