A very down‑to‑earth person, Mr. Paul Sable, auto shop and mechanical drawing instructor, finds many of the students of Maine West quite nice. He recognizes, however, the fact that "With the cross‑section of people you get in a high school, there will be two extremes ‑ the very good and the very poor."
This is Mr. Sable's first year at Maine West, but it is his sixth year of teaching. Before coming to Maine West, Mr. Sable taught mechanical drawing and aviation at Gordon Technical High School in Chicago.
His formal education includes attendance at Saint Rita High School in Chicago and Lewis University in Lockport, where he majored in aviation and mechanical drawing. At present, Mr. Sable is taking night school courses dealing with industrial arts at the University of Chicago.
Though he thinks that advice should be given to the individual, Mr. Sable offered this opinion, "If the students worked as

hard as they played, they would be really good pupils. For instance, if they worked in physical education as hard as they danced, or read their textbooks as avidly as the fashion and hot rod magazines, they would be great."
An avid hunter and fisherman, Mr. Sable has traveled both east and north. Since he can practice his favorite sports there, Canada is his favorite vacation spot. Another pastime which Mr. Sable enjoys is bowling.
Mr. Sable enjoys teaching his classes in mechanical drawing, a basic course in machine drawing or architecture, and auto shop, which deals with fixing and wrecking the cars donated to or bought by the school. On a lighter note he revealed that one girl is taking auto shop this year ‑ a circumstance he finds very unusual.
With a final note, Mr. Sable advised, "Students should take full advantage of the opportunities offered by their high school."
