District qualifying meets were held at Barrington on March 4 and at Rich East and Proviso West, March 5. The ten best competitors on each apparatus advance to the qualifying meets for State. Ron Sass, Larry Scully, and Dennis Zick will go to the State meets.

The State preliminaries will be held at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. today and tonight at Willowbrook. Coach Drain seemed optimistic about these meets, saying, "If the boys hit their routines, we have a good chance of getting them through." The top ten finalists will go to the State meets held at 7.30 p.m. tomorrow at Willowbrook.

Arlington, Evanston, and Proviso West have each won the State title twice; York and Willowbrook have each won once. This year's defending champion is Evanston.

Proviso East has won 17 individual championships followed by Arlington with 13.

Three athletes will attempt to hold on to titles won last year.

Richard Swetman of Proviso East will defend the all‑round, horizontal bar and parallel bar championships; Bill Rodinella of Evanston will defend his trampoline championship.
