Students To Attend Meeting

On the weekend of March 25 and 26 the twenty‑first meeting of the State Student Leadership Conference will take place in Springfield. Maine West students will be attending this meeting for the first time.

Mr. Elwood Hughes, Distributive Education instructor, stated that our three representatives will be observing this first year instead of participating. They shall serve as reporters and will be able to give the club an idea of what will be expected of them next year.

These people are Carol Van Dyke, president of DE club, Gail Hockett, and Al Gerstung.

The purpose of the annual meeting is to give the students a chance to participate in leadership and to learn. The conference features contests, workshops, speakers, and leaders.

Participation is a large part of the meetings. The competition in the contests stretches into the fields of advertising, retailing, public speaking, display judging, and sales demonstrations. Mr. Hughes added that it will contain a "regular list of activities.''

Mr. Hughes stated that the Distributive Education Club and the annual State Student Leadership Conference is "for students interested in the field of distribution; it is a wonderful opportunity for them to come in contact with other students with the same interest."
