An evening of one‑act plays was presented yesterday, March 24, in the Maine South auditorium. The series of plays, tragedy as well as comedy, began at 8 p.m. All three Maine schools were involved in the "Maine Township Play Festival."
The purpose of the night was to demonstrate just what could be accomplished dramatically on the high school level. Mr. Garth Boyer, dramatics coach, said, "It is a good relationship to start promoting drama in the three schools and also lets others see what we can do in the township."
Maine West presented "lie," written by Eugene O'Neill, which was earlier seen by the English classes. The play involves the captain of a whaling ship who brings his wife with him on a voyage. She, not finding the sea the romantic mystical thing she thought it to be, pleads with her husband to return home. The two years the crew has signed up for are completed, and

they also wish to head for home. But the captain, refusing to return without a full ship-load of oil, finds himself forced to refuse his wife and thereby causes her insanity.
The students who participated were Bob Stephenson '66 as Captain Keeney; Beth Radcliffe '66 as Mrs. Keeney; Bob Connelly '68 as Bim, the cabin boy; Bruce Mac Donald '66 as the steward; Dave Freer '67 as Sbcum, the second mate; and Terry Ritter '66 as Joe, the harpooner. Members of the crew include Bill Caddy '68, Lee Rodin '68, Bryce Hedger '66, Rich Rosendale '66, and Mark Burchard '66.
Next year the play night will be held at Maine West and will most probably be sponsored by the Thespian Society presently under the leadership of Miss Ruth Nickelson.
