After a week‑long campaign, the election results came in, and it was announced at the Election Jitney last Saturday night that Doug Chase and Mary Holm had triumphed in the '66‑'67 Student Council elections.
Throughout the week of March 14‑18, Doug campaigned for the office of president along with his opponents, Dan Beck and Bill Prentice. Each candidate gave speeches in the gyms and the auditorium, and banners and signs covered the walls of the cafeteria, gymnasium, and the corridor bulletin boards during Election Week.
Doug Chase, the president-elect, stated his policy: "I have no concrete policies. I cannot promise you anything, only that I will try to do my best." This enthusiasm is believable because of the job he did as president of the Junior class and his interest in sports and other activities at Maine West. Doug says, "I was thrilled when I heard my name announced, and I am happy to be elected to this office."

Mary Holm, newly elected secretary, has been active in Student Council for the past two years. She has participated enthusiastically in school events and in her sophomore year was elected to the Christmas Formal court. About her election Mary says, "I will try to make life at Maine more interesting for Maine West students, and I will strive for a stronger bond between the students and the faculty."
Candidates were given the chance to describe their platform to the entire student body in special assemblies held in the auditorium. Their campaign managers and close friends and other references elaborated upon each nominee's qualifications for office.
The voting took place on Thursday and Friday outside the cafeteria before and after school and during the lunch periods. The tabulations from these votes resulted in Doug Chase and Mary Holm victorious in the race for the offices of president and secretary in the '66‑'67 Student Council elections.
