Another new teacher has come to Maine West this year. In addition to being a new teacher at West, Mrs. Charlotte Hetrick is also a first year teacher.
A petite blond newlywed, Mrs. Hetrick teaches Clothing II and III and enjoys her work very much. In fact, she finds the only time she has to pursue her major pastime, sewing, is in school.
Concerning her students, Mrs. Hetrick finds them easy to work with. She has discovered that she is able to deal with her students more individually and can, therefore, get to know them better. She hates gum chewing in class because, if it gets in the machines or on the material, it is "so hard to clean everything up."
One thing which Mrs. Hetrick does not care for is the fact that she is not able to teach and become acquainted with any of the boys in the school. The only other thing that Mrs. Hetrick dislikes 'about teaching here at West are the disruptions and the assemblies since they never take her whole class, but just some of the students.
Formal schooling for Mrs. Hetrick consisted of attending a small high school in Endicott, New York. She attended Purdue University for her undergraduate and graduate work. Mrs. Hetrick majored in retailing in her undergraduate course but received a Master's degree in education.
"Maine West seems so much bigger than my high school," commented Mrs. Hetrick. "It offers such a variety of courses. I hope everyone will take advantage of these many opportunities while they have the chance."

Red‑headed and slight of frame could best describe Miss Suzanne Horgan, home economics teacher at Maine West. Miss Horgan graduated from Iowa State University and received her Master of Science degree in home economics at Southern Illinois University. Her home state is Wisconsin, and previously Miss Horgan has taught in St. Louis, Missouri.
Every year since she has been a junior in high school, Miss Horgan has spent her summers either working or going to school to further her education. How ever, this summer she has decided to "loaf" and perhaps take a trip to California. Her hobbies are reading and sewing; and because she is relatively new in the area, she spends a great deal of time exploring her new neighborhood.
Miss Horgan says her pet peeve is students who stand in the hallways after the bell rings and block doorways. Her advice to students is "Anything worth doing is worth putting the utmost of your effort into. Use your best and complete ability. Don't be afraid to apply yourself in school work, play, or school spirit."
The things Miss Horgan likes most about Maine West are the terrific school spirit, the cooperation, and the willingness of students to learn She said, "Everyone is so cooperative here ‑ so willing to help everyone else." Miss Horgan could not think of anything she particularly disliked about Maine West, but she commented that she liked the school system ‑ especially the students themselves.
Miss Horgan said that she enjoys teaching and is looking forward to many more years here at Maine West.
