Carolyn Talks On PE Grading

"I was so excited when I learned that I was chosen to speak at the Conrad Hilton," commented Carolyn Relph '66. On Friday, March 18, Carolyn attended a convention in the Waldorf Room at the Chicago Hilton Hotel. At the convention she took part in a panel discussion on grading procedures in physical education.

Carolyn's ten minute speech was presented to approximately 250 teachers from grammar schools, high schools, and colleges. The views given by the panel were the administrators', the teachers', and the students' ‑ which Carolyn expressed.

She explained how the P.E. program is graded on the A through F and incomplete system, taking in also consideration for zeros. Carolyn also explained the idea of rating different phases of work at different

percentages. Her speech was completed with added facts about the junior and senior leader programs and the senior evaluation sheets.

Various schools throughout the nation were asked to participate in this convention. Dr. Hollis Fait of Connecticut University selected the panel members. The heads of the physical education departments of the selected schools were asked to submit the names of a boy and a girl to be chosen as the student member of the panel. Miss Corinne Clark selected Carolyn as Maine West's representative. She was then chosen by Mr. Fait from the names submitted from all over the nation.

"I considered it quite an honor to be chosen to speak for a group of teachers," admitted Carolyn.
