GAA Begins Tournaments

Tournament time has once again entered the GAA scene as the basketball and volleyball tournaments continue. There are ten basketball teams that have been participating in the games, and by elimination only four teams remain to play one another for the championship. In the semi‑finals Linda Pinzke's '67 team played Sue Stein's '67 team with the winners of this game playing the winners of the Marie Marrese '68 versus Pat Jacobson '69 game. These games, along with the volleyball games, have been taking place after school on Mondays and Tuesdays.

A new sport for GAA members to take is fencing. Interested girls are being taught the basics of the sport after school on Fridays.

On March 18 a play night was held for GAA members. Twenty-six schools, including Prospect, Maine East,

Glenbrook North, Glenbrook South, and Wheeling, participated in such activities as swimming, basketball, volleyball, and trampoline.

On February 16 the most outstanding badminton players were chosen for the Maine girls' badminton team. Some of the games that the girls are looking forward to participating in will take place against Maine South on Wednesdays and Thursdays. In the first game against Maine South on Thursday, March 10, our team lost with a score of 5‑1.

Those on the badminton team are Elizabeth Grange '67, Bonnie Junius '66, Carol Currier '66, Terry Marlin '67, Joanne Petty '67, Jane Rische '67, Karen Schacht '66, Linda Fick '66, and Shari Kohl '66. The two alternates are Katie O'Donnell '69 and Diane Schettko '66.
