The Winter Sports Awards Night, which is sponsored by the Maine West Dads' Club, presented this year's varsity letter winners with their letters. Mr. John Mueller, president of the Dads' Club, opened the ceremony and then introduced Mr. Herman L. Rider, principal of our school.
Mr. Gaston Freeman, coach of the varsity basketball team, gave letters to Dennis Doyle '66, Al Fritz '67, Dale Haase '67, manager Marty Kovar '66, Pete Kulik '66, manager John Larson '66, Dick Manny '67, Cliff Owens '66, Norm Skelly '66, Mike Sorenson '66, and Tom Sperling '66. Paul Moehling '66 was selected captain of the team, and Kenny Mueller '66 was chosen the most valuable player.
The varsity gymnastics team, coached by Mr. Sidney Drain, were awarded their letters: Don Clark '67, John Holtz '67, Larry Janssens '66, Don Kennett '66, Ken Malten '66, Ray Mandel '66, Jim Nerius '66, Brad Reay '66, and Larry Scully '67. Ron Sass '67 was chosen the most valuable player on the team, and senior Dennis Zink was captain.

The varsity swimming coach, Mr. Harold Baer, gave out varsity letters to Marco Bonnivier '67, Dave Eley '67, Keith Gyssler '67, Larry Harrison '67, Norm Hudson '67, Dave Klamer '67, Jeff Pick '66, manager Lee Redmer '67, Gary Robbins '66, Fred Strutdhoff '67, G. T. Wenzel '67, and Paul Anderson '68. Diver Greg Gundling '66 and Bob McGee '66 were selected as co‑captains, and freshman Chris Olander was named the most valuable swimmer of the season.
The varsity wrestling team, coached by Mr. Richard Carlini, had a very successful season. Coach Carlini handed varsity letters to Frank Bautista '66, Kurt Christensen '68, Greg Dolphin '67, Ralph Gano '66, Dave Grutzius '68, Tom Hansch '66, manager Tom Holtz '66, Royce Leonardson '66, Ron Ploshay '66, Wayne Rozanski '66, Randy Ryden '67, and Mike Schuepfer '66. The captain for this year's squad was Jim Kautz '66.
