National Library Week Promotes
Reading Habit

Read more‑Caution‑it will. be habit‑forming. Although it sounds more like a prescription, it's the theme of National Library Week, April 17.23. The purpose of this week is to make reading habit‑forming. Also it is to make students and the people of the community aware of all the educational facilities in the library and to stress their importance.

"The library resources of Maine West are increased regularly to provide you and the faculty with an opportunity for independent study," stated Mr. Willis Lindeman, chairman of the library staff. The interests of the student can be increased as well as broadened through browsing in a favorite part of the library.

According to the American Library Association, a high school should be able to seat ten per cent of its total enrollment at one time. It suggests that the library contain or have in its possession ten books per pupil. The Maine West library must expand with other facilities of the school to meet these recommendations.

If one plans to attend college, now, during Library Week, is a good time to take a look at some of the college filmstrips. Some colleges and universities are represented in this filmstrip collection, which is located at the listening corner of the library. If a student is interested, he should ask Mrs. Schlegel for information about the available college filmstrips.
