Diamondmen Attain One Win,
Three Losses In Season Openers

Coach Carsten's varsity baseball team opened play April 2 against the Huskies of Oak Park. The Warriors were victorious when they pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh as the Oak Park pitcher, Iverson, was overcome by wildness. Dick Manny scored the lone run in the 1 to 0 win, reaching first on a walk, moving to second in another walk to Tony Gyssler, advancing to third as Banger singled, and scoring when Iverson issued his third walk of the inning to the Warrior's Farias who forced Manny home.

Al Fritz, Bill Gastorf, and Sherm Schuett were the Warrior pitchers who combined to limit Oak Park to only one hit, a single.

In their next game the Warriors ran into a hard‑throwing pitcher from Glenbrook South, and he sent down 14 Westmen on strikes in the 2 to 0 defeat. Croft allowed the Warriors only one hit ‑while South scored a run in the second and one in the seventh to pull out the win.

Against Evanston, junior hurler Al Fritz mastered his opponents to the time of a 3 to 2 victory while allowing only two hits in the early innings and settling down to throw hitless ball for the final five innings.

Maine collected all three of their runs in the first frame as Manny, Kulik, and Farias scored on a walk, a fielder's choice, and a ground out.

The varsity was then sent down on a no‑hit performance by the Niles West pitcher, Klein, who led the Indians to a 5 to 0 decision over Maine.

Deerfield made three losses in a row for the Warriors as Deerfield outlasted them 5 to 4. Five errors by Maine in the second inning allowed three Deerfield men to cross the plate.

The Warriors, however, perked up at bat when Pete Kulik and Tony Gyssler combined for five hits between them.

The varsity took on Glenbrook North the day before the Deerfield contest and were handed a 6 to 1 defeat. Glenbrook counted four runs in the fourth inning to pave the way for their victory.

Coach Kennedy's sophomore team and Coach Curry's freshman team also began their seasons in the last few weeks. The sophomores have compiled a 3 and 3 record while the freshmen have won 2 lost 3 and tied 1.
