In the past few weeks about 100 students have been competing in the American Legion Constitution Contest. To receive a $100 scholarship to any college of their choice, the contestants had to take an objective test which was given on March 30 on the Constitution.
The seven highest scorers, who achieved the top marks on the test, were eligible to participate in an oral test one week later. The winner of this Constitution contest was Norman Hudson '67.
Mr. Harlan Suffield of the Social Science Department, along with the many others involved in the work of the department, have been preparing their students for this test for a long time; but the students had to do most of their own research and study.

The contest is held each year in order to keep students well informed with the operations of the American democratic system, which is necessary to know and understand in order to become responsible and alert citizens.
When asked what he thought of the outcome of the contest, Mr. Suffield, who was the chairman of the contest arrangements this year at Maine West, replied, "I think the choice was a very fine one."
Besides receiving the scholarship, which is applicable not only to college but also to all types of further schooling, Norman will have his name inscribed on a plaque in the library.
