School Clubs To Hold Year-end
Banquets in May

As spring and the end of the school year 1965‑1966 near, the annual club banquets are imminent.


Quill and Scroll, an international society for high school journalistic scholars, is having a banquet on Thursday, May 12, at 6:30 p.m. It will be held at Nielsen's restaurant; and any journalism student, Quill and Scroll member, Legend staff member, or Westerner staff member is eligible to attend the dinner.

Also present there will be Mr. George Walker, sponsor of Quill and Scroll, the Legend, and the Westerner; Miss Mae Jean Engen, dean of girls; Mr. Herman L. Rider, principal; and Mr. A. K. H. Cochrane, dean of students. The last three will be the awards presenters.

Mr. Clifford G. Rowe, from the Chicago Sun‑Times, will be the guest speaker. The title of his talk will be "Fasten Your Seat Belts, Please."


On Wednesday, May 11, the Future Nurses' Club will have its annual banquet in the school cafeteria. Their club officers for next year will be elected and voted on during the meeting on May 10; and the new officers will be announced at the dinner, the next meeting, to which mothers will be invited. Sponsors of the club are Mrs. Frances R. Ringl and Mrs. Bernice Gundelach, nurses at Maine West.

Also on Wednesday, May 11, the Diversified Occupation Club will hold its annual banquet at Heuer's restaurant in Chicago. Sponsor of DO. is Mr. Rolland Wolfe.


Distributive Education Club has had its dinner on Wednesday, May 4, at 6 p.m. at the Elks Club in Des Plaines. The sponsor of the club is Mr. Elwood Hughes.


The dinner for the Supervised Job Training Club will be held in the Maine West cafeteria on Wednesday, May 18. Afterwards the students will go to R‑104 for the rest of the program. The sponsor of the club is Mr. Rolland Wolfe.


German Club's annual dinner will be held on Friday, May 27, in a German restaurant in Chicago. Sponsor of the German Club is Miss Rosalie Streng. At the dinner the next year's club officers will be announced.


The Boys' Bowling Club banquet was held at the school on Wednesday, April 27. The sponsor of the club is Mr. Fred Bencrisutto, vocational and college counselor.
