Warriors To Meet Falcons Tonight

The varsity baseball team began Conference play and, after splitting a pair of games in their first week of competition, swept their two games in last week's action.

Last Friday the Warriors encountered the Conant club and, aided by a 6‑run third inning, won 6 to 0. Bill Gastorf, Maine hurler, fanned 11 while surrendering only one hit.

In their big inning, Craig Rowells led off and was hit by a pitched ball. Gastorf followed and sacrificed him to second. Tony Gyssler then drove Rowells home with a double, and he advanced to third on a fielder's choice by Tom Kehe that the Conant shortstop could not handle.

Farias scored Gyssler when he reached first on an error, and he stole second to advance runners to second and third with two runs in. Bob Banger tallied two more runs on a tremendous triple and scored himself as Fritz singled. Al then stole second, and the Warriors final run scored on a single by Bruce Kaechele. This was enough to ensure the Maine victory.

Maine received their runs in the fifth by the run‑scoring doubles of Bob Banger and Norm Skelly.

Maine battled with Forest View in the first week of the conference schedule and received their only loss to date, 4‑2. The Warriors and hurler Schuett were victims of a 4‑run sixth inning by the Falcons that erased a 1 to 0 deficit that Maine had been holding over the Falcons.

Maine and Al Fritz won their first Conference game against Palatine who struck out seven while singling in two runs in the 5-run fifth inning. Farias of the Warriors opened everything in that inning with a double that began a flurry in which the Warriors batted around. After five runs were in, Palatine removed Hanfel, and Yurtis was installed into the game to retire the side but not before the Maine victory had been insured
