Racketmen To Face Barrington Monday

The varsity tennis squad has had a winning season to date, recently winning all their meets with Maine East, Maine South, Palatine, Niles West, and Niles North.

Under the direction of varsity tennis Coach Roger King, the squad will take on Barrington away this Monday; and at home on Wednesday the team will meet Wheeling.

The racketmen defeated Maine South 4‑1 and Maine East 5‑0 in a triangular tennis meet last Saturday.

In the three singles events, Gus Herrero, Dennis Doyle, and John Stone each won in their matches with Maine South. The doubles team of Larry Scully and Don Clark lost their match with South. The second doubles team of Tom Martin and Ed Challberg won their match with Maine South.

In the meet with Maine East at the triangular Saturday, the winning score for the Warriors was 5‑0. Gus Herrero, Dennis Doyle, and John Stone each won their own singles matches. The doubles team of Tom Martin and Ed Challberg and the team of Larry Scully and Don Clark also won their decisions.

In the squad's meet with Palatine on April 28, Maine outscored their opponents, 3‑2. The varsity racketmen won the three singles matches but lost both of the doubles in this meet.

Niles West fell hard to the Warriors in a meet on April 26, with Maine winning all five matches, 5-0.

The first singles match with Gus Herrero was won 6‑3 and 6‑4. Dennis Doyle, in the second singles, won 6‑1 and 6‑3. In the third singles event for the Warriors, John Stone found a win with scores of 6‑3 and 6‑2.
