Tonight the varsity trackmen compete in the Maine East Relays at East starting at 6 p.m. Last year the Maine West track men placed third, and Evanston won the championship.
The Maine West cindermen placed fifth out of 16 teams at the Waukegan Relays. The distance medley team of Jim Hren, Vern Ray, Bob Rosedale, and Kevin Flurkey added a trophy to the Maine West collection as they placed first.
Sophomore Lee LaBadie took the only other first for Maine as he won the mile with a time of 4:23.2. LaBadie fell with 110 yards to go to the finish line and could have been under 4:20 if he did not fall.
Maine's 2‑mile relay team of Phil Martin, Lee LaBadie, Ed Lusk, and Kevin Flurkey placed second. The sophomore 880‑yard relay team of Lee Rodin, Dave Hooper, Gary Keehn, and Larry Nelson placed fifth.
In a dual meet with Morton West the varsity cindermen lost, 71‑47. The best performances for the cindermen were by Kevin Flurkey as he won the 880‑yard run with a time of 1:57.1, which is Flurkey's best time in his career. Lee LaBadie won the mile run with a time of 4:24.

In the high hurdles Bill Morstadt placed second, and Steve Hall placed third for Maine. Bob Rosedale and Vern Ray took second and third respectively in the 100‑yard dash.
Ed Lusk placed third in the 880‑yard run, and Jim Braun placed second in the 440‑yard dash for the Warriors. Phil Martin captured second behind LaBadie in the mile run.
Maine's Vern Ray and Bill Morstadt captured second and third respectively in the low hurdles. Bob Rosedale took second in the 220‑yard dash and the broad jump for the cindermen.
In the high jump LeRoy Peterson took first, and Wally TistIe took second. In the pole vault Bob Walls and Andy Sanchez both of Maine took second and third respectively.
The frosh‑soph trackmen beat Morton West 67‑51. The cindermen took seven firsts out of a possible 14. Bob Richter was the only double winner.
Others taking firsts were Gary Keehn in the 440‑yard dash, Jim Mueting in the pole vault, Lee Rodin in the broad jump, Gene Beherns in the high jump, and the mile relay team of Warren Kane, Dave Hooper, Tom Venema, and Gary Keehn.
