Tony Gyssler, this week's Warrior, has "always liked baseball." Tony, a 5' 11" green-eyed, brown‑haired senior, has gone out for baseball all four years he's been here at Maine. He advises any boy interested in going out for baseball to do the same and to try to play the same position every year.
He was voted "Most Valuable Player" his freshman and sophomore years. Last year he played third base, and this year his position is center. He has already earned one letter in baseball and will receive another one this year.
Last year's game against Deerfield in which Tony hit a home run ranks as outstanding in his opinion. "Teamwork is important but individuals and what they can do alone is too. If you've got good individual players, teamwork naturally follows," said Tony. Good individual players are gained through practice and workouts lasting until about 5 p.m. on

school nights and 7 p.m. on the night before a game. "Right now our team has a one-win, one-loss score in the Conference league."
"Getting in shape is the hardest part of training, but we also have the problem of keeping the team together," Tony replied. When asked if bigger turnouts at the games would encourage the team, Tony related, "Contrary to what most kids think a few kids more or less do not bother the team one way or the other. We're out there to play a game, and I personally don't mind if kids don't come. Some kids work; others have homework or other matters that must be attended to after school. I think school spirit is about as good as it's going to get."
Tony hopes to attend Northern Illinois University and major in political science. He wishes to play baseball there but doesn't expect to try for the major leagues.
