BASEBALL
Warriors To Meet Wheeling Today

The rain‑delayed District Baseball Championship was finally decided last Monday when the Prospect Knights downed the Warriors 8 to 6 after they had beaten Forest View 2 to 1 earlier in the day behind the strong pitching of J. D. Thorne. Meanwhile, the Warriors have moved into a tie for the Conference lead as both they and Wheeling have 5 and 3 records. The Warriors play Wheeling today in a game that will probably decide the championship.

Maine has ridden mostly on the arm of Bill Gastorf who accomplished the rare feat of throwing back‑to‑back, no‑hit games while winning four in succession before he was knocked off by Prospect.

Against Prospect, the Knights were the first to score as they put across three runs in the second inning on two Warrior errors, a double by Kingman, and a run-scoring single by Whitcomb. Maine roared back in the third with three runs of their

own by capitalizing on Kingman's wildness. The big blow in that inning was a two run double from the bat of Harry Tistle.

After both squads had pushed across single runs in their respective next innings, Prospect exploded for four runs in the last of the sixth. Gallagher led off in the frame and slapped a single; and after the Knights had filled the bases via another single and a walk. Kingman doubled two runs home. The final two runs scored on a mishandled ground ball.

Maine battled back for two runs in the top of the seventh, but they were able to come up with only two runs‑two short of their quota of four, and Prospect had the game and the District title, 8 to 6.

In the first game of the District, the Warriors battled their way to a 1 to 0 decision behind Gastorf's no‑hitter.
