The Maine West varsity and frosh‑soph golf teams for this season have had a good deal of trouble in dealing with other schools involved in the Conference play during their 1966 season. The Maine West stickmen this year have found themselves in the dilemma which has been met by other Maine teams‑the absence of experienced returning lettermen golfers from the past season. Coach Eugene Zuccarini explained that this absence of experienced golfers has left the Warriors' golf team almost defenseless against the more skilled and experienced teams which Maine West plays during the golf season.
The teams most respected in accordance to their ability by Coach Zuccarini are the Mount Prospect, Palatine, and Forest View golf teams. Coach Zuccarini attributes the skilled playing of these three teams to the fact that these schools possess the vital element that separates these teams from the Warriors ‑the talent that comes with experience.
Though the Maine West teams in golf have had their difficult moments, Coach Zuccarini pointed to various meets with more powerful schools when the stickmen's potential showed through.

During the first nine holes of the meet against Mount Prospect, the Warrior stickmen almost curbed the winning streak set clown by the Knights. The golfers of the Niles North team were also almost brought down in the first nine holes of play. Even though the Maine West stickmen put up these valiant efforts, during the second nine holes of both matches the more powerful teams broke through to beat the Warriors.
Coach Zuccarini mentioned that the Warrior golfers seem to come through stronger during the first nine holes of play.
It may be noted that the Warrior cause is being brought forward with no less than three sophomore players on the varsity team.
The District golf meet on Friday, May 13, brought together 18 of the contending high schools in the area. The Warrior team did not bring out any outstanding final scores, but some individual scores totaled by the stickmen were quite respectable. Ken Helfers '68 scored an 85, while Dave Krowka '68 and Dave Grutzius '68 scored 87 and 88 respectively.
The competition was furious, but in the end the powerful Palatine team came in first with a 316 stroke total, with Forest View placing second and Mount Prospect third.
