Seniors Receive Honors at
Final Assembly

The annual Honors Assembly was held this morning in the auditorium for the Class of 1986. Carol Ann Collister has the honor of being valedictorian of the Senior Class. When asked how she felt about being valedictorian, she said, "I realize it is quite an honor, but I'm scared to death to get up in front of all those people." Carol's topic for commencement is "Our Promise of Equality." Wendy Elizabeth Geertz and Christine Ida Haarvig are the salutatorians this year.

There were 17 Departmental Awards given this year. In Art Randy Black took the honors. Business Education selected Karen Schacht and Nancy Olig. Gretchen Rivard and Julia Szabo received the awards from the English Department. The Home Economics Department chose Lynda Greenaway.

James Meyer and Douglas Newman were named tops in the Industrial Education Department. Joy Heckenbach and Robert Turner won the Language Department awards. Receiving the award from the Mathematics Department was Edward Nicholas. The Boys' Physical Education Department selected Randall Gill while the Girls' Physical Education Department chose both Carolyn Relph and Linda Waters. In Music Richard Hudson took the honors. John Hollenback took the high award in Science while Lawrence Hofmann was tops in Social Science.

Good Will Awards were presented to students for their examples of good living and citizenship both inside and outside of school. These students were nominated by the senior hometoom teachers, voted on by the entire Senior Class, then approved by all of Maine West's faculty.

Good Will Awards were presented to Robert Burgess, Nancy Carlson, Dennis Doyle, Harriet Hall, Paul Hummel, Cynthia Kaechele, James Kautz, Linda Olson, Lynne Struebing, Dick Wells, and Stephen Wischweh.

Two special Honorary Good Will Awards were received by Velma Welch, our foreign exchange student from Panama, and Gus Herrero, our foreign exchange student from Argentina, for their exceptional promotion of good will here at Maine.

Doug Chase, next year's Student Council president, lead the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance and presented Bob Burgess, this year's president, with a gift.

The members of the Junior Honor Guard are John Balma, Shirley Bortell, Christine Calams, Karen Felix, Charlotte Freeman, Catherine Gano, David Glade, Norman Hudson, Elizabeth Klimek, Jacqueline LaSalle, Kathryn Levan, Richard Manny, Norine Meister, Mary Beth Moll, Janice Nelson, Linda Pinzke, Joseph Richardson, Roberta Saxe, and Anita Waskowski.
