Maine West received three certificates of award for the 1965 edition of its yearbook, the Legend. The awards were presented May 7 by the Northern Illinois School Press Association at their annual convention at Northern Illinois University.

In the classification of best yearbook copy, the Legend took first place. In the best yearbook division, it also took first with the theme, "The Maine Way." Third place was awarded to the Legend in the overall excellence classification.

Editor‑in‑chief of the 1965‑yearbook was Donna Batdorf '65. Mr. George Walker is the sponsor of the Legend.
