Cindermen End Second In Season

Under the direction of head coach Mr. Joe Jobst the varsity trackmen ended their season with a second place in Conference behind Palatine. The frosh-soph trackmen finished third in Conference as Wheeling's frosh-soph track team placed first.

Maine West had three individuals who took firsts. They were LeRoy Peterson, who jumped six feet to win the high jump, Bob Rosedale who took first in the 100‑yard dash, and Lee LaBadie, who won the mile run.

Bob Rosedale captured third in the broad jump with a jump of 20 feet 5 inches. Junior Jim Hren jump 20 feet 3 inches to capture fourth in the broad jump.

Dick Wells, Tom Christensen, and Bob Wahls took fourth in the high jump, discus, and pole vault, respectively, for Maine's track men.

Maine's Vern Ray placed second in the 100‑yard dash and third in the 220‑yard dash behind the favorites Bill Bahnfleth of Palatine, who won the event, and Pat Dunnigan of Forest View. Bob Rosedale took fourth in the 220‑yard dash for the track men.

Kevin Flurkey placed second in the 880‑yard run, and junior Ed Lusk placed fourth in the 880 for the track men. Phil Martin ended his high school career as he placed second in the mile run behind LaBadie.

Maine's 880‑yard relay team of Bob Rosedale, Jim Hren, Vern Ray, and Ken Mandelky placed second with their best time of the season‑1:32‑but were disqualified by another coach.

The mile relay team. of Tom Postema, Jim Braun, Ed Lusk, and Kevin Flurkey placed fourth. A new event in the Conference, the two mile run, saw Doug Chase place fifth for the trackmen.
