Maine Goes TV

Three Maine West students, two boys and a girl, will represent our school on the television quiz program, "It's Academic."

According to Miss Ruth Nickelson, they are Ed Nichols '66, Cohn Baenziger '66, and Julie Szabo '66.

There will be a bus with 50 Maine West students attending the taping. The program will be taped today. The show will be televised on NBC, Nov. 20 at noon. This will be the first time Maine West has appeared.

Our three Warriors will compete against two other teams in a battle of academic knowledge. These schools are Dwight D. Eisenhower High School, Blue Island, and Josephinum High School, Chicago.

Miss Nickelson commented, "I think that we will do pretty well; we're sure going to try."

The people in charge of the show send out letters to all the high schools in the area. These schools then select a certain number of students to go down for an audition.

Fifteen went from Maine West. After this audition seven Mainites were selected on the basis of the number of questions they answered. Miss Nickelson then worked with them after school and selected three on the basis of the areas in which they were strongest.

The contestants said that they were each hoping they would be selected but were a little surprised when they were told.

Ed Nichols said, "When we took the audition, the people of the Merchandise Mart thought we did fairly well."

Maine West has three very good representatives for this, and given a little encouragement they should do very well.
