Band Wins at Summer Festival

The award‑winning Maine West Concert Band was awarded a trophy for outstanding performance at the July 4 Prospect Summer Festival this year.

The colorful and spirited band, under the leadership of Mr. Robert Kuite, music department chairman, and his assistant, Mr. Michael Cuthbert, was given a special invitation to attend the parade. The award was the first of its kind to be presented to a band participating in the Independence Day celebrations.

The bands were judged by their appearance as they marched down the streets of Mt. Prospect. Three well‑drilled twirlers and the drum major marched in advance of the Maine West band. Among the participating bands were those from Wheeling, Mt. Prospect Junior High, and other schools.

The award is a gold cup with the music insignia. It will soon be on display along with other musical awards in the show cases at the end of A‑wing.

Throughout Maine West's history, the inspiring music of the band has been demonstrated in many performances outside of school, and many honors have been awarded.

Last summer the band was invited as guests at the Swedish Day Festival at Genoa, Illinois. The band also played music which highlighted the ceremonies at the Lake Park concerts.
