LaBadie Runs In 9:24
Sets New MW Record

The Maine West cross country team defeated Maine South High School, Tuesday, October 5, by a score of 31 to 24. The first one to finish the two mile run was sophomore Lee LaBadie with a time of 9:54. Next to finish were Lusk, 10:30; Chase, 10:44; Braun, 10:52; Stone, 11:03; and Franzen, 11: 13. LaBadie's time of 9:54 broke his previously set school record of 9:53. John Greco, who held the school record until LaBadie broke it, ran the two mile course in 10:00.

Last Saturday, between the football games, the harriers met Palatine for another cross country meet. LaBadie again came in first with a time of 10:20. Next to finish for Maine West were Lusk, 10:42; Chase, 10:52; Braun, 11:08; Franzen, 11:22; and Stone, 11:33. However, Maine West only tied Palatine in this meet. This tie broke the record of 19 consecutive dual‑meet wins over a period of three years.

Maine West now has one win and one tie in conference meets this season. Last September 28 the harriers defeated

Wheeling, and last Saturday they tied Palatine. The conference teams that Maine has not yet run against are Prospect, Conant, and Forest View. Maine will run against Prospect tomorrow between games.

The harriers will meet Conant on Tuesday, October 19, at Conant; and they will meet Forest View on Tuesday, October 26, here at Maine West. A week from today a conference meet will be held at Conant. The cross country schedule also includes one more non‑conference game against Niles East. The district meet will be held October 30, and the State Finals will be held at Champaign.

There are no conference standings yet because some of the teams have only started conference play. Mr. Bill Barringer, head coach, feels that the three strongest competitors for the conference title are Maine West, the defending champion, Forest View, and Palatine. He says of Maine's team, "This year's team is a very fine team."
