Willie Likes MW Students

To get the students fired up and cheer the team on to victory is the responsibility of Pete Dellegrazio, this year's "Willie the Warrior." Pete stands five feet eight inches tall, and has brown eyes and black hair. He likes the kids at Maine and the students' school spirit.

"We have the best school around but some kids couldn't care less about it," says Pete. Students who don't support the teams and have no school spirit really "bug" him. Pete is really serious about school spirit and the students. When asked what his goal in school is this year, Pete answered, "To try and do something really great for the school, and also I want to try to be friendly with everyone, not just a few select kids."

Some of "Willie's" duties are to attend the games and pep rallies. Pete's goal as "Willie the Warrior" is "to show the kids that 'Willie' isn't just some idiot that goes out on the field and jumps around and makes a fool of himself." Even though Pete didn't have to try out for the part, he was more than happy to accept it. "I think it is a privilege, and the kids that think it's dumb are usually the ones who either never go to the games or go and have no spirit just for the sake of saying, 'Yeah, I was there.'

Once Pete found himself in a very embarrassing situation when he was a freshman. After entering the girls' locker room by mistake, he found that the girls were coming in to take showers. Pete also revealed that the funniest incident of his 'life was the time he was talking to his girlfriend on the phone while washing the dishes, and the phone fell into the water!
