Youth Appreciation Week Is Coming
Soon To Maine

Youth Appreciation Week, Nov. 6‑13, promises to be a rewarding experience for 16 Maine West students.

Chosen by U.S. history teachers are John Stone, James McNurney, Susan Ziehn, Michael Kraft, Dan Beck, Lois Wedell, Ray Wuntz, Katherine Kinser, Tom Postema, John Balma, Barbara Brown, Shirley Bortell, Mark Weaver, Lynda Pagel, Velma Welch, and Gustajo Herrero.

Sponsored by the Optimist Club of Des Plaines, the week starts tomorrow at City Hall, where swearing in ceremonies will be conducted by Judge A. Rosen. Following this, there will be a tour of city hall, the police department, the fire department the police pistol range, and the water works. The day will end with lunch, sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, at the Des Plaines Elks' Club.

On Tuesday, Nov. 9, the students will leave the Des Plaines City Hall at 8:30 am. for a tour of the Cook County jail and a tour of Mayor Daley's office in Chicago.

Thursday, Nov. 11, the Optimist Club will sponsor a banquet for the students at the Christ Evangelical and Reformed Church. Saturday, Nov. 13, the students will gather at the city hail, then leave for a tour of the Middle States Telephone Co., and Forest Hospital. They will be luncheon guests of the Elks.

The students will attend a city council meeting on Monday, Nov. 15, where they will meet their respective officials.

Youth Appreciation Week should prove interesting for all those involved.
