Cross Country Wins Last Meet
of Season

Maine West faced Niles East Tuesday after school to conclude its cross country season. The Warriors ran away with the meet by beating Niles East 18 to 41. Labadie was first to cover the two mile distance with a time of 10:20. Following LaBadie were Lusk, 10:21; Schabilton (NE), 10:22; Flurkey, 10:40; Chase, 10:44; Braun, 10:44; Nielsen (NE), 10:46; Rubnick (NE), 10:48; Franzen, 10:59; and Stone, 11:17. The Frosh‑Soph cross country team also defeated Niles East by a score of 20 to 41. This meet also concluded their season.

Mark down last Friday as a win for Maine West at the Mid‑Suburban League Cross Country Meet. The results of varsity action were as, follows: taking the lead was Craig Brown of Forest View in 10:12.5; second, Le LaBadie of West in 10:18; Lee LaBadie of West in 10‑1810:19; fourth, Ted Lambert of Forest View in 10:20; fifth was Bill Lytle of Wheeling in 10:21; and sixth was Jack Pollard of Prospect in 10:22.

Leading Maine West in the varsity was Lee LaBadie second, Kevin Flurkey third, Ed Lusk seventh, Doug Chase eighth, and Jim Braun twentieth. The winning team was Maine West with 40 pts., second was Forest View with 48, third was Palatine with 85, fifth was Wheeling with 100, and sixth was Prospect with 132.

In our Frosh‑Soph finals Maine West took a fourth place. Leading was Prospect with 45, second was Palatine with 63, third was Forest View with 79, fourth was Maine West with 82, fifth was Conant with 88, and sixth was Wheeling with a score of 160.

From Maine West, leading the Frosh‑Soph, were Bill Deuser second, Kurt Christensen eighteenth, Larry Nelsen in nineteenth, Tom Venema twenty‑first, and Paul Carter twenty-second.

In the district meet at Deerfield, Maine West came in fifth out of twenty‑three schools. In seven meets we had five wins.
