Students Take Oath As City Officials

Judge Allen Rosen was in charge of the swearing in ceremony last Saturday as 43 students took the oath of office as junior officials. The ninth annual Youth Appreciation Week, originally started by the Des Plaines Optimist Club, reached its climax Monday night as Barbara Brown '67 took her place as Junior Mayor.

All the junior officials, coming from Maine West, Maine East, St. Patrick, Sacred Heart, Forest View, St. Viator, Notre Dame, and Maryville, are selected by the U.S. history teachers.

The other 15 students from Maine West include: James McNurney '67, City Treasurer; Velma Welch '66, Supt. of Public Works; Ray Kuntz '67, Building Commissioner; Shirley Bortell '67, City Attorney; Michael Kraft '67, Health Officer; Katherine Kinser '67, 1st Ward Alderman; Tom Postema '67, 3rd Ward Alderman; Susan Ziehn '67, 4th Ward Alderman; Lynda Pagel '67, 5th Ward Alderman; John Stone '67, 7th Ward Alderman; Dan Beck '67, Chairman Human Relations; Gustavo Herrero '66, Chairman Youth Commission; Mark Weaver '67, Supt. of Sewers; Lois Wedell '66, Chairman Police & Fire Pension; and John Balma '67, Court Reporter.
