There comes a time once a year when all people, no matter what their race, religion, or sex is, can give thanks for all they possess.

Just the word Thanksgiving means many things. First, it makes everyone aware of all they do have to be thankful for whether it be great riches or just to be alive. All people need such an awakening because of the natural tendency they develop; they take things for granted.

There is a unique conception of Thanksgiving in the mind of every individual. To some it means a family and relative reunion when the table is brim full of turkey and other foods. Others observe the day as a strict family day, when each member plays his role to its full extent and the scenes in old photo albums are once again brought to life. Of course, there are some people who know it's Thanksgiving but can't do much about it because they are thousands of miles away from home fighting for our country. Then there are the great masses of people who are totally unconscious of the fact that it is Thanksgiving because they are traveling because of their work and jobs.

In a way Thanksgiving can be compared to debt. Some people owe small amounts of money; others owe large sums. Some pay their debts; others don't. At Thanksgiving some people have much to be thankful for, and others have only a little. Some of them give thanks and others don't.

Thanksgiving is the peak of a pyramid which is being built all year long. Everything people have to be thankful for doesn't happen on this one day‑it's a pyramid of things, and this is the day that was set aside for thanks. There are Thanksgivings happening all the time: when a little boy pulls his car lose from a wedge it was caught in, when someone near is taken off the critical list, and when the coach at basketball finals says that "it's in the bag."

Thanksgiving is and always will be an established holiday. The only concern of our country is to pray that there will always be something to be thankful for.
