Robin Represents Palatine

"I don't feel any different because I don't believe it!" exclaimed Robin Swain '66 about her status as Palatine's Junior Miss for 1966. On the basis of their grades, she and 14 other girls from Maine West were recommended to run for Des Plaines' Junior Miss. Since only five girls were interested, the contest was combined with the one in Palatine.

October 31 was the big day for the contestants. They were interviewed by a panel of four adults and judged on poise, personal appearance, scholastic ability, physical fitness, mental alertness, a n d personality. There were over 40 girls vying for honors in the combined six city contests; from these, 17 finalists were selected.

In the talent contest that evening, Robin played the selection "More" from Mondo Cane on the organ. Talent counted for 20 per cent in the final judging. Robin was

awarded a loving cup and two tickets to the Seven Countries in Wheeling for winning the contest. The next day the six representatives were interviewed by the Chicago American.

She will compete in the state contest at the Drury Lane Theater December 26 through 30.

The 45 girls competing will stay in the nurses' dormitory of a nearby hospital during the contest. The winner of the state contest will go on to the national contest at Mobile, Alabama, in March.

During her years at Maine, Robin has participated in Student Council, Brotherhood Society, and National Honor Society and is serving as a senior leader this year. She has also taken piano lessons and is in church choir. Her future plans include majoring in math at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin.
