"Take advantage of the academic and social experiences which Maine West offers, and make a sincere attempt to relate your knowledge to your lives outside of school," is the advice of Miss Eleanor Baldwin, a petite, blond, social science teacher.
Miss Baldwin thinks that her students are very enthusiastic and friendly, but she would like them to participate more in class. A graduate of New Trier High School and Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, Miss Baldwin majored in political science and is now working for a Master of Arts degree at Northwestern University.
Traveling is Hobby
Miss Baldwin's summers are spent working at Carson, Pirie, Scott and Company in the College Shop. Her favorite hobby is traveling; she has been to Europe, Japan, the West Indies, South America, Hawaii, and Mexico. Her favorite city is Fort Lauderdale, Florida, her hometown.
Her most embarrassing moment was here at Maine West last summer while student teaching. She became so nervous that she was going to leave the class. The tension was eased as one student raised his hand and informed her that she had put her sweater on inside out!

Mr. Kardasz Coaches
A handsome addition to the English and athletic departments is Mr. Phillip Kardasz. He teaches three English III classes and one English I class. He also coaches the sophomore football and freshman baseball teams.
When asked what he felt was the most outstanding feature of Maine's sports, he replied, "Team spirit and tremendous team effort." The only thing that Mr. Kardasz feels could be improved at Maine West is that "Lunch periods could be longer." In general, he thinks that Maine students are "cooperative and have a good general appearance." The major fault he finds in the student body is "girls chewing gum."
Mr. Kardasz taught at Gordon Technological School for one year and at Saint Mel's for two years. Both schools are in Chicago.
Having lettered twice in both football and wrestling at Purdue University, he is well qualified as an athletic advisor.
"Teaching as a profession," he feels, "is gratifying and very rewarding for your labors."
